With 3,179 members—including 993 women—drawn from all ethnic communities in South Kivu, KACCO makes inclusion a driver of performance. By actively involving women and young people in decision-making and agricultural diversification, the cooperative is bringing about sustainable transformation in the region.
Women and youth at the heart of strategic decisions
Founded in 2013 to bring together small-scale producers around Lake Kivu, the KACCO cooperative is built on a firm conviction: no sustainable progress can be achieved without the full and active inclusion of women and youth.
Far from being mere beneficiaries, they participate in general assemblies and lead dedicated committees. These consultative forums allow them to voice their priorities and shape the organization's strategic direction. At KACCO, ethnic and generational diversity is a collective strength.
From social inclusion to economic empowerment
Beyond institutional representation, KACCO creates tangible economic opportunities for its members. Alongside the production of high-quality Arabica coffee, the cooperative supports agricultural diversification, particularly through chili pepper and sweet potato value chains.
This strategy makes it possible to:
Generate supplementary income throughout the year;
Create attractive rural jobs for young people;
Strengthen household financial resilience against market fluctuations.
"At KACCO, inclusion is not just a principle; it is a pragmatic strategy ensuring that every woman and young person becomes a key player in their community's development."
